We recently added a blog post on how to create a custom Windows installation / setup disk and noticed that it was getting some traffic, but it wasn’t what people were searching for. Even though this website is brand new (literally 1 week old today), we’ve noticed people searching for how to create a Windows XP setup disk from their existing operation system installation - likely these people do not have their original Windows XP setup CD.

So - we decided to do a bit of digging in hopes of providing this information or at least making this information more accessible. After a bit of searching, we came across this tutorial on how to create a Windows XP setup / bootup / installation disk from your existing installation. Now, this tutorial may not work for everybody, but it will work for some.

This is purported to work with both Windows XP home and professional editions, but we don’t know if it’ll work with Windows Vista, Windows 2000 or Windows 98 as the author of this tutorial has only tried this with Windows XP.

In any case, here is the tutorial: Create a Windows XP boot disk from your existing operating system.

We hope that this helps some of you out.
